Our founder, Elizabeth Gels, was born and raised in Peru where she first learned to appreciate and respect the Alpaca as a symbol of the Andes. Years after she established her home in the United States, she never forgot the beauty of the Alpaca and its incredible fibers. It was on a trip to Southern Peru in 2001, when she realized this popular fiber that had been exported to the European markets for decades was somewhat unknown in the North America market.

Ever since that trip, our mission at Alpaca Boutique has been singularly focused on marketing the highest quality Alpaca clothing to North America and the rest of the world. We teamed up with experts in the Alpaca market to find top designers and manufacturers that comply with high standards of quality. The brands you find at Alpaca Boutique were inspired by fashion and created with the expertise of an ancient textile tradition. Fine Alpaca Fiber is as soft as Cashmere however the Alpaca Fiber is unique. The Alpaca developed hair with unique thermal properties because they had to adapt to the extreme conditions of the Andes with altitudes of more than 13,000 ft (4,000 m) and temperatures of 5 F (-15 C). The Alpaca Fiber is incredibly warm and strong, yet soft to the touch. In addition, Alpaca is the only animal species worldwide whose hair naturally displays a wide array of colors (up to 22) varying from black to white, through different shades of brown and gray.
